Dries Van Noten becomes baron

Dries Van Noten becomes baron

19/07/2017

Today, king of tailoring Dries Van Noten was awarded the honorary title of baron. The world-renowned designer has known both critical and commercial success ever since he started his label in 1986, so the title celebrates both his longstanding career as well as his pivotal role in the Belgian fashion industry.

This isn’t the first time the designer was rewarded for his contributions to the sector. Strangely, Dries’ recognition came from oversees first. In June 2008, he was honoured with the International Designer of the Year Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. This was followed by the distinction of “Royal Designer for Industry” from the RSA Trustee Board in London. A year later the Flemish Chamber of Commerce inducted Dries into the Galerie des Eminents and the Flemish Royal Academy of Belgium gifted him with the Gold Medal (“Gouden Penning”).

This list of rewards is far from being overkill. Dries Van Noten remains one of the most influential and authentic designers to ever set foot in the industry.
